Wondering how you should invite people you don’t know to take a look at your network marketing business?
If you’ve been trying to figure out how to do cold market prospecting, then this training is for you. I’m going to share exactly how you should talk to your cold market about your business.
What Is Cold Marketing Prospecting
You have two markets, there is a warm market and a cold market. If you don’t know what those mean don’t worry I have you covered.
Your warm market is essentially your friends and family or people you know personally. These are the people you most likely will hit up when you first get started with your business, which I think you should absolutely do. This is an excellent way to get your business off the ground fast since these people already know you. Keep in mind, you don’t NEED anyone’s approval of what you are doing.
Here’s something you need to be prepared for, sometimes people in your warm market will be your biggest dream stealers. They will tell you what you are doing is a scam, they will question you on why you are doing what you are doing. Just know you don’t NEED anyone to build your business and they don’t have to approve of what you are doing. At the end of the day, they are not paying your bills and they are not standing there looking at you in the mirror.
Then you have your cold market, and these are the individuals who have no clue of who you are. You all have never met or seen each other. You run into these people every single day. There are way more people out here that you do not know than you do know. So learning some cold marketing prospecting skills is a fantastic way to build your business offline.
Cold marketing prospecting is simply talking to someone you do not know (Cold Market) and finding out if there is need for your product or service. More on that in the video below but you need to have the mindset that you have the answer (your network marketing business) to whatever problem they tell you about.
Why Even Do Cold Marketing Prospecting
You can build your network marketing business two ways, online or offline. If you are just getting started, I would suggest that you should use both. I put together a training that will help you get started with marketing your mlm online. They do share one thing in common though, you will need to pick up the phone to do it. This is a relationship business so picking up the phone and talking to leads you’ve generated online or following up with someone you met is critical if you want any type of success.
Here are a few reasons why I think everyone building a network marketing business should be doing cold prospect marketing.
- There are way more people that you don’t know than you do know. Even if you sponsoring everyone in your warm market (which likely won’t happen), you are going to run out of people to talk to.
- You might recruit someone who has been in a bunch of different network marketing companies and has used up their warm market. What if you could teach them what you know about how to do cold market prospecting. This could make all the difference in someone’s business.
- You are going to be out and about living your life anyway, why not do some prospecting and see if you can help someone out. You never know, your opportunity could be the very thing they are looking for.
- You can teach your team how to do cold market prospecting. What if your entire team had the same prospecting skills you have, do you think your team would grow then?
What Not To Do
I know I know, you want to tell the world that you have the best products and the best compensation plan. But don’t do it. This is where most network marketers mess up. Offline and especially online with social media. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten a friend request on Facebook only for them to turn around and pitch me their business in the very first message they send to me. Think of it like this, how would you feel if someone walked up to you in the grocery store and said, “Hi, my name is (insert name), would you be interested in joining my business? We have the best products, best compensation plan, etc.” Now, I don’t know about you, but if someone came up to me saying this, I would probably just walk away. Don’t be this person. It’s not effective, and it does not work. You never want to pitch someone your business in the first meeting, not online or offline immediately. That’s not the time or the place to do it.
How To Approach Cold Market Prospects
When you are prospecting, you are collecting information that’s it. It’s not the time to go into a full blown presentation. Doing that is how you can make sure nobody joins your business. Be yourself and have a normal conversation with people. Treat them how you would want someone to treat you. Show some genuine interest in what they have to say and have a normal conversation with them. A good rule of thumb is if it feels weird to you talking to them, It more than likely feels weird to them as well. So, don’t be a weirdo!
If someone is mean or just not very friendly, then you should just move on. Don’t stand there and try and convince someone to talk to you. Who has the time to sit there and try and change someones thinking? I don’t and neither should you. Just move on.
How To Start The Conversation
You initiate the conversation just like you would with anyone else. I like to lead off by giving them a compliment. You can say something like “That is a nice car you have, what do you do for a living?” The one thing you need to keep in mind is to give a genuine compliment. Don’t say they have a nice car and it’s a beat up rust bucket. Or say they are dressed sharp and they have on sweat pants and a tank top.
Keep the conversation rather light, your goal here is to build a little rapport with your prospect. Get to know them. Don’t give up to much information. The biggest mistake that most network marketers make is they talk to much to not enough people. Your goal should be say less to more people.You can say something along the lines of “My company is in the middle of doing some expansion in the area and we are looking for some people.” When you present yourself like this, it builds curiosity without telling them your company name or anything.
How To Bring Up Your Business
You can’t say the wrong thing to the right people, and on the flip side, you can’t say the right thing to the wrong people.If they are pretty upbeat and have a good attitude, you can ask this question, “Would you be open to a side project if it didn’t interfere with what you are currently doing?” If they say yes great, collect their information and follow up with them a few days later. When you do, let your tools do the presentation and heavy lifting for you. Get a DVD in their hands, get them on a sizzle call, or send them an online presentation for them to watch. Which ever way you decide, it’s totally up to you.
Should You Use Cold Market Prospecting Scripts
So I’ve gotten this question a lot, and I’ve had people ask me what scripts do I use when I talk to people, and the truth is I don’t use any scripts and neither should you. But there is a little catch to this, You should use them only as a guideline so you can keep your conversations on track. People will be able to see right through you if you start to use scripts and sounding like a robot. Like I mentioned earlier, just be yourself! It will be way more efficient, and your results will be a lot better. How would you like to be approached? That’s how you need to approach your cold market. Don’t treat them like a piece of meat but treat them like a human being. You want to transition your cold market into your warm market.
