How to Fire Your Boss As a Woman and Have A Peace of Mind In 2020

“You simply can’t imagine what my boss told me the other day,” continued the clearly frustrated woman, replaying the treacherous ordeal and frustration at the hands of her boss in her head. He said I am one of the most inefficient employees he has ever dealt with. He said that my marketing skills are wanting and that I am the worst marketer he has ever had the unfortunate chance of working with. As if that was not enough, he said that I am lazy, stupid and a sorry excuse of a human being. If you are a woman in the corporate sector, you probably have had to put up with an insensitive and ungrateful boss who simply cannot see your worth.
Unfortunately, most women view their jobs as a bigger commitment as compared to their marriages. They erroneously believe that they can’t survive without their jobs and as such vow to stay put irrespective of the abuses from their bosses. To them, their job is more important than their sanity or even health. A lot of women have had to grapple with debilitating stress from their jobs and putting up with misogynistic bosses who simply don’t see their worth and treat them like second class employees. The thought of leaving is paralyzing and seems to be informed by the fear of the unknown. They would rather stomach the stress, the disrespect, and the emotional abuse than to pack up and leave.
Are you a woman in the corporate sector and identify with the above situation? Have you been thinking of quitting your job but simply can’t muster enough courage to quit your job and venture into self-employment or look for a better one? Well, if you have toyed with the idea, it is very possible to fire your boss. Some women believe that changing the employment status of a boss is a tall order but the reality of the matter is that you can actually do it by firing your boss, quitting and getting into something much better. So how do you do it? How do you go about it?
• Makeup your mind
The first thing you need to do is overcome your fears and make the decision to leave and look for a better job. So long as you are guided by fear, making the ultimate decision to leave will never come to fruition. To find a new job, you need to make a conscious decision and commit yourself to finding a new and better job.
• Revamp your resume and LinkedIn profile
Chances are that you have not been contacted by prospective employers because your resume or even LinkedIn profile is in debilitating status. When you make up your mind, endeavour to turn off updates on your LinkedIn profile so that your colleagues do not get notifications such as “Tracy added 4 new skills” or “Tracy updated her profile” which might essentially spook your employer or employees into believing that you are searching for a new job. Make your LinkedIn profile public, revamp your resume and package yourself in such a way that prospective employers will notice you.
• Start networking
While it’s essential that you do not spook your boss and make them aware that you are searching for a new job, ensure that you start talking to people (what most people refer to as networking). It is okay to apply for jobs online but you can find the best opportunities (usually referred to as hidden jobs) from talking to people. Some jobs are open and simply waiting for the right person. To increase your chances of landing such a job, talking to people is of the essence.
• Treat interviews like a date
The mistake most women make is to dress up and head for an interview with the goal of impressing the hiring personnel. If you are keen on avoiding the experience you are grappling with in your current job, the best course of action is to treat the interview as a date. Ask questions about the company, its culture and so on and so forth. You want to work in an environment that appreciates your efforts, rewards you and respects you.
In essence, firing your boss is not just about the aforementioned. Other things to take into consideration include having proper negotiation skills for a job offer, resigning politely and professionally. You do not need to stay in a job you loathe simply because you feel as if you are trapped into a mechanical mode of reaction impossible to resist!
